Åke Stavenow

Åke Stavenow was a lieutenant in the Swedish military and a close associate of Count Folke Bernadotte.

Captain Robert L Robb, assistant Military Air Attache and Åke Stavenow. There seems to be a game being played in the background, possibly a game of baseball by Americans interned in Sweden.

I have many unidentified photographs in an album from Sweden. In this photo I have posted, the gentleman on the right is Captain Robert Robb, the assistant Military Air Attache.  It is the other figure that I would like to identify, and I wonder if it could be Åke Stavenow. (April 27, 2011 update: The man next to Captain Robb is Åke Stavenow, per a family member – see comments.)

Lt. Stavenow and my dad, Herman F. Allen, would meet occasionally so I am thinking that perhaps their conversations centered around the American internees who were staying in Sweden.

What Åke Stavenow was primarily well known for was his work as an artist and art historian in Sweden.  He worked in many media including sculpture, glassware, silver, and furniture. This 1937 article in Time Magazine describes his work with the Swedish Association of Arts and Crafts.

He wrote many books including in 1949 a book titled “Folke Bernadotte.”

I am searching for more information about Åke Stavenow and specifically what he did during World War II.

Thank you so much, Christoffer! I will make the changes. What is your opinion about the gentleman I named as Åke Stavenow in the photograph here: https://libertyladybook.com/2011/03/29/general-curtis-visits-mullsjo/
