Saints and Soldiers

Saints and Soldiers, WWII Movie

(2003) In December 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge, a small group of soldiers escape the Malmedy Massacre. Desperately trying to hide from the Germans they meet up with a downed British pilot who needs to deliver a critical intelligence message to the Allies. They all work together to help him get through.

Saints and Soldiers is loosely based on actual events. The Malmedy Massacre was certainly real. The trial after the war and its aftermath only added notoriety.

Before the war, the main character in this film had made friends with Germans during Bible Studies in Berlin. The chances are slim that he would meet one of these Germans, but he does.

The story was thought provoking, and I hated the ending. But of course, there weren’t a lot of happy endings were there?
