16 Sep Siblings in Sweden
For as long as any of us can remember, our family has talked about Sweden. It’s where, during World War II, our parents Herman and Hedvig met, fell in love, and got married. The B-17 Liberty Lady, Gotland, Rättvik, Stockholm, Siljansborg, Strandvägen, the Grand Hotel … they are all part of our shared folklore.
We tried and tried to get Herman and Hedy to go back. They never did. First they were saving for their “old age.” Then Herman’s dementia advanced far enough that he wouldn’t go and Hedy wouldn’t leave him.
But when they died they left enough money for their children to take the trip they never took. So on September 6th Patti, Barbara, Bill and Kathy left for Arlanda airport in Stockholm.
Our brother David could not make the trip due to two family weddings so we brought him in effigy.
Before we left, David’s daughter-in-law Lindsey told us that we needed to post our photos on Instagram. At the Atlanta airport, while we waited for our flight to Stockholm we began to post under the hashtag #siblingsinsweden.
And so, here we go.

It was a magical trip. Mom & Dad’s life in Sweden was like Camelot….one brief shining moment in their lives. We relived those brief shining moments. Thank you Pat!
