15 Nov The Little Traitor
(2009) It is 1947 in Palestine. The Little Traitor is the story of Proffy a 12-year-old Jewish boy whose parents were the only members of their family to escape from Poland. British soldiers were in charge, and even though Proffy hates the British he befriends one of them and becomes a “traitor” in his neighborhood.
At the end of the movie you see the family and friends listening to the radio as the roll is called at the United Nations, declaring a separate Jewish state. Interspersed with the characters from the movie dancing in the streets are the actual vintage films of that day.
As we all know, there have been wars there ever since. I just watched the Kirk Douglas movie about U.S. Army Officer David “Mickey” Marcus who went to the region in 1948 to help train the Israeli Army.
This is a light-hearted movie about a serious subject and would be a good one to watch with your children.
