11 Aug Cottage to Let
(1941) This British film is all about Nazi spies trying to steal the blueprints for a secret bombsight. In fact, the movie has an alternate title of Bombsight Stolen. I imagine that in 1941, a popular topic was “secret bombsights.” Who had them, who was developing them, and who wanted to steal them?
The action takes place in Scotland at a darling cottage being converted to a military hospital.
Combining comedy with espionage, the strong cast includes John Mills, Alastair Sims, and Leslie Banks. It was hard to keep up with who was a spy and who was with British Intelligence.
15-year-old George Cole stole the show. That’s an interesting behind-the-scenes story. The family of Alastair Sims liked George so much that he moved in with them and stayed until his marriage at the age of 27.
