(1975) Overlord is a British film that follows Tom, a young soldier who leaves home and enters training to prepare for D-Day, the invasion of Europe, code name Overlord, June 6, 1944. Throughout, he has dreams about dying and even writes home that he isn’t sure that he will come home again.
Roger Ebert wrote a glowing review after he viewed Overlord at the 2004 Telluride Film Festival.
Director and writer Stuart Cooper had the resources of the Imperial War Museum in London. The archival footage is amazing and because the film was shot in black and white it all fits together perfectly.
For that reason alone, this is an easy WWII movie to recommend.
