02 Apr A League of Their Own
(1992) A League of Their Own is a fictionalized account of the All-American Girl’s Professional Baseball League, organized in 1942 when it was feared that the men’s major league would be cancelled due to the war. Directed by Penny Marshall, the stars include Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Rosie O’Donnell, and (believe it or not!) Madonna.

There’s no crying in baseball!
I can’t believe I had never watched this movie before. It was fun to learn about this little known episode of sports history. The League operated from 1943 to 1954.
UPDATE – May 1, 2014: Read an article written by the son of one of the “real” players, The “Real” League of Their Own
