I See a Dark Stranger

I See a Dark Stranger, WWII Movie starring Deborah Kerr and Trevor Howard

(1946) During World War II, a beautiful but naive Irish girl turns 21 and leaves her village for Dublin. She has grown up listening to her father tell stories about his exploits with the IRA, and that is her dream now … to fight against the British.

When it was first released in the United States, I See a Dark Stranger was titled The Adventuress.

A very young and so beautiful Deborah Kerr plays Bridie Quilty in this delightful spy-chaser comedy. Toward the end, I wasn’t sure who was fighting whom but it didn’t matter … Trevor Howard saves Miss Bridie from all peril.

This British film was shot in Ireland right after the war was over, and there is a full cast of Irish and English characters. According to the TCM article, one of the perks of working in Ireland was the unlimited amounts of Irish whiskey.
