(1951) William Holden stars in this WWII romantic drama about an infantryman fighting in 1943 Italy who falls in love with a WAC. The original short story was written by Richard Tregaskis, a war correspondent who also wrote the book “Guadalcanal Diary.”
I was looking forward to watching a movie with William Holden until in the opening credits I saw that the alternate title was “A Girl for Joe.” I’m glad I forged ahead anyway. Holden co-starred with Nancy Olson, a popular actress who is still alive today.
Except for some of William Holden’s overly sentimental dialogue, the movie was easy to watch.
I did read that Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis had an affair with William Holden in retaliation to her husband’s reported indiscretions. Good choice.
