(1943) This really is a dreadful film. I watched it because it happened to be just starting when I turned on Turner Classic Movies a couple of nights ago. TCM is doing a series on “Arab Images in Film.” Prime time anchor Robert Osborne’s c0-host for this is Professor Emeritus of Mass Communication and Middle East media consultant Jack G. Shaheen, author of “Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People.”
Granted, early Hollywood portrayed people from many parts of the world as subhumans, savages, or devil worshipers. Stereotypes and political incorrectness were the norms.
“Adventure in Iraq” was an excellent film to demonstrate just how that was done.
