(1964) This WWII movie will remind you of The Dirty Dozen, made three years later. A member of British Intelligence (Stewart Granger) recruits five talented prisoners to go with him on a mission to Yugoslavia to rescue an Italian General imprisoned by the Nazis.
I enjoyed watching Mickey Rooney’s antics as an Irish demolitions expert. Edd Byrnes (Kookie, Kookie, lend me your comb and very popular at the time) was the forger. He was just a little too perfect for this role. Even after he had been tortured by the Nazi’s and thrown back into his cell, Edd’s signature hair-do was perfectly in place.
The gorgeous locale in Yugoslavia was the best part of the movie.
I found myself fast forwarding at the end. Always a bad sign.
