Sahara

Sahara, WWII Movie starring Humphrey Bogart

(1943) In his introduction to this movie on TCM, guest host Ben Mankiewicz said that Sahara was one of Humphrey Bogart’s personal favorites, out of the more than 75 films that he made.  It is also unusual in that there are only men characters — no contrived love interest.

It’s all about the power of Sand and Water.  Bogart leads a group of men … American, British, French Italian, even German … via a tank he named “Lulu Belle” through the desert looking for water.

You’re never sure until the very end who will prevail … the Nazis or the water.
