(1966) It is 1944, and a team of nine Marines fight their way through the lush Philippine jungle in order to retrieve critical information regarding MacArthur’s return invasion. One by one they are killed by the Japanese.
Hugh O’Brien, at 41 years old, is pretty convincing. After all, he actually was a Marine in WWII. Mickey Rooney was convincing about half the time. He was 45. And Robert Mitchum’s son James was only 24, the spitting image of his dad. He was the youngest, most inexperienced guy in the group. Half the time he just couldn’t believe what was happening.
It really was unbelievable.
