Most memorable scene: “This man’s dead, Captain” (army medic)
(1956) This classic movie is based on the book of the same name by Sloan Wilson, also a WWII veteran who went to work in postwar corporate America. It may not land in your typical list of World War II movies … however, from Gregory Peck’s character’s flashbacks you quickly learn that his war experiences have impacted everything he’s done since.
He comes back home to a wife and family with all the typical issues you can imagine. His wife loves him, yes, but wants to move to a better home. She pushes him to find a job that will bring in more money. And she can’t understand why the war has changed him so much.
Ten years after the end of the war, she finally finds out.
