09 Jan The Bells Go Down
(1943) This British film is adapted from a book of the same name about the AFS (Auxiliary Fire Service) and its group of firemen who helped to fight the fires of London early on in the war. The movie begins on August 27th, 1939, not long before England declares war on Germany, and ends at the beginning of the Blitz.
The English comedic actor Tommy Trinder stole the show. James Mason’s role was not so memorable. The action jumps around, I thought in order to take advantage of Trinder’s wisecracking. To be honest, if it hadn’t been for him I probably would have fast forwarded to the end.
I had hoped that I would see more of the Blitz, but I did not.
