Run Silent, Run Deep, WWII Movie starring Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster
(1958) The author of the book this film is based on was a decorated submarine officer during the war.
Although the movie doesn’t depict a real event, it does give a good picture of many aspects of submarine life … the perils, the camaraderie, the tactics, the suspense as the crew hears a torpedo coming toward them and waits to see if it will hit.
Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster are the two stars, but Burt steals the show.
When it came out, the New York Times reviewer said, “You have to like submarine movies to like “Run Silent, Run Deep …”
