Mrs. Miniver, WWII Movie starring Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon
(1942) Six Academy awards, and I say, “Applause, applause.” Wildly popular in Britain and in the United States, which had just entered the war. It showed how “regular folks” in the London suburbs were coping.
Greer Garson was wonderful, (although did wives really call their husbands “Darling” every time they spoke to them?)
It was a huge surprise to read that in 1943 she married the actor who played her son. That fiasco only lasted until 1947.
