30 Dec Five Graves to Cairo
(1943) This is one of the earliest movies that Billy Wilder (“Some Like it Hot”) directed, and in the midst of Nazi danger it has its lighthearted moments.
Most of the action and intrigue takes place in an Egyptian hotel as the British battle Rommel for North Africa. This characterization of Rommel (in 1943) was much different than that of James Mason in 1951 in The Desert Fox.
Actually, my favorite actor was the hotel owner Farid, played by Akim Tamiroff.
