Good Evening, Mr. Wallenberg, WWII Holocaust movie ~ German language w

(1990) Raoul Wallenberg, a member of the well-known wealthy Swedish family, was traveling to Hungary on business as World War II intensified. This Swedish film (German language with subtitles) is about his efforts to successfully save the lives of thousands of Hungarian Jews.

What Wallenberg had to see and endure each day was horrific. As the actor portrayed him, in spite of what he witnessed … his friends, their children being shot, he was able to switch from a mild caring person to a man strong and assertive, demanding to be obeyed.

It is mentioned by one of the men begging Wallenberg to go back to Sweden that the Americans wanted him to leave also. However, when this film came out in 1990, the fact that Wallenberg was working in cooperation with the Office of Strategic Services was not known.

The subtitles didn’t diminish the film at all. To hear German being spoken made it more real.  I was hanging on very word.
