The Navy Comes Through, WWII Movie

The Navy Comes Through, WWII Movie starring Pat O’Brien

(1942) The crew of an old Merchant Marine ship en route to Belfast takes on the Nazis. The story was based on a popular serialized short story published in the Saturday Evening Post.

The main stars were Pat O’Brien and Jane Wyatt. Jane played his sister, a navy nurse who happens to end up on the same old boat as her brother and ex-fiance. Just lucky I guess.

Also on board was Desi Arnaz, one of his earlier movie roles, and he even played the guitar. Desi was injured and didn’t serve during World War II, but he did entertain the troops.

George Murphy, a song-and-dance man who appeared in many movies before he was elected to the U.S. Senate, played the “ex-fiance.”

Although this movie shows its age with fake backgrounds, it did receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Special Effects.
