08 Aug Dangerously They Live
(1941) After a young lady is in an automobile accident she seems to have amnesia. Then she lets the intern in the hospital know that she is actually a British intelligence agent!
When I see a World War II movie that takes place “at home” I always try to imagine the reaction of the audience, considering what is happening at that stage of the war.
When this movie came out, the U.S. wasn’t in the war yet, at least not actively. That’s why the young lady is a British agent. What must have been scary for the audience were all the Nazi spies who had infiltrated the community. Everyone was suspect.
That is, of course, except for John Garfield who played the young heroic intern.
