Tampico

Tampico, WWII Movie

Tampico, WWII Movie starring Edward G. Robinson

(1944) Tampico is a port city in Mexico. During World War II, Mexico supplied the US with raw materials. Mexico declared war on Germany after they sank tankers taking crude oil to the U.S.  Because of its proximity to our country, spies from both Axis and Allied countries were active there.

That is the basis for the story of Tampico. The captain of an oil tanker, Edward G. Robinson, impulsively married a young lady who was picked up from a lifeboat from a ship that had been sunk by a U-boat.

The German spies were intent on discovering when the ships were going to leave port and at what speed so the submarines could intercept them. When the ship arrived at the port, the crew was ordered to never breathe a word about their plans.

What I enjoyed most about this movie was Edward G. Robinson, the spy plot toward the end, and that it was short (75 minutes.)
