Task Force

Task Force, WWII Movie

Task Force, WWII Movie starring Gary Cooper

(1949) A great tribute to the aircraft carriers from the USS Langley, the first carrier in the 1920’s  up through World War II. I love watching the flagman wave the planes during takeoff and landing.

When I watching the opening credits I noticed “technicolor” and wondered why, for a black and white film. About 30 minutes before the end of the movie, the B/W became color. Actual combat footage was used in both mediums.

As I watched, I hoped that Gary Cooper’s character was an actual Navy captain, but he was not.  From what I have read, most of the history is close to fact, if not exactly.

One last comment. Well, two. The title of the movie (Task Force) did not do it justice.   Not exciting enough.  For that matter, I don’t like the cover on the DVD either.  Gary Cooper looks like he is starring in a musical comedy.  What’s that all about?

I watched it anyway.  It’s very exciting, and it’s a favorite!
