I was struck by the contrast between the beginning of the film which resembled an episode of Lassie and then later, the fierce fighting as Murphy’s platoons battled it out with the Germans. These foot soldiers did go to hell and back as they fought for every inch of enemy ground.
Audie Murphy wasn’t even 20 years old when he won the Congressional Medal of Honor.
