The Mortal Storm, WWII Movie starring James Stewart
(1940) Based on a book by a British author who lived in Germany at the time she wrote it in the late 1930′s.
The story takes place in 1933 in a small Bavarian town, and we see what happens when Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany. This film and all others made by MGM were banned in Germany.
America had not yet entered the war, and some in this country thought the film was “war mongering.” They were still hoping that the United States could lay low and let Europe handle its problems alone.
Stars Jimmy Stewart, Robert Young (as a Nazi? really?) and Robert Stack.
