Hitler’s Madman, WWII Movie starring John Carradine

(1943) One of the movies made at this time depicting what happened when Nazi Reinhard Heydrich, nicknamed “The Hangman,” was assassinated by Czech resistance fighters.

This movie was a little easier to follow than Hangmen Also Die.  Although at the time this movie was made the full story was not known, the world was horrified at what took place at the village of Lidice resulting in several movies and books, including a verse by Edna St. Vincent Millay, part of which is read during the film.

Update: August 2015: A new movie, to be called Anthropoid, named after the real-life Operation in which Heydrich was attacked, is in the making.

Watch movie clips and a trailer at TCM.
