Four Jills in a Jeep, WWII Movie starring Carole Landis
(1944) A lightweight musical. Carol Landis, Kay Francis, Martha Raye, and Mitzi Mayfair go on a USO tour.
The all-star cast also included Phil Silvers, Betty Grable, Jimmy Dorsey and his orchestra, and the fabulous singer Dick Haymes.
Carol wrote the book this movie was based on, and these ladies actually made this tour in 1942. This beautiful and talented actress reportedly committed suicide in 1948, during the time of a romance with actor Rex Harrison.
I checked out Carol’s book and discovered that a lot of the action took place at Thurleigh, site of the 306th Bomb Group where my Dad was stationed.
