I must now give credit to the website and message board at www.ArmyAirForces.com.  It was here in 2008 that I first found Mattias searching for information about the Liberty Lady.  This is a wonderful research resource.  If you go to the “Research Help” page you will find many online places to look for information.  Yesterday I downloaded the Enlistment Records of Herman and his two brothers.  All three Allen boys were serving in World War II at the same time. army-air-corps1

There are thousands of posts from relatives of veterans who, like me, are searching for clues.  Yesterday I read a message sequence where two sons of veterans who had served together found each other.  The one wrote, “I’ve been searching for you for years!”

Yesterday I posted a question and within minutes “Mark” emailed me the Macr 2735 which he explained is a copy of the actual Missing Air Crew Report for the Liberty Lady crew.  One interesting fact I’d never seen:  a list of the “installed weapons” that were on the plane.  There is also a notation “RTD” next to each of the ten crew members and Mark told me that means “Returned to Duty.”  Which they all eventually did …

There is a store on ArmyAirForces.com and proceeds from this help support the website.  I am ordering a mousepad with a picture of two B-17′s.

Thanks, Mark, for your help and thank you to all the veterans and friends of veterans who monitor this site!
